Cuesta won the shooting, rebounding and scoring battles on Wednesday in an 87-69 men’s basketball victory over SBCC at San Luis Obispo.
The Cougars (22-7, 10-1) clinched a tie for first in the WSC North by shooting 61 percent, including 10-21 on 3-pointers. They outrebounded the Vaqueros 37-22.
Anthony Williams scored a season-high 17 and Scott Burrows had 11 for SBCC (4-22, 1-10), which shot 40 percent and fell behind 45-32 at halftime.
“They have three good 3-point shooters and we did a good job of chasing them off the line in the first half,” said coach Morris Hodges. “But they hurt us on the boards with eight offensive rebounds.”
Jalani Davis contributed nine points and five boards while CJ Edwards had eight points. The Vaqueros had 17 steals and forced 25 turnovers.
Santa Barbara cut a 19-point second-half deficit to nine (68-59) on a short bank by Williams with 6:11 to play. Cuesta responded with two straight 3-point buckets.
The Vaqueros will complete their season on Saturday with a 7 p.m. home game against L.A. Pierce.
