Bishop Diego landed two players on the MaxPreps Division 4 All-State football team.
Defensive lineman Thomas Renick was chosen to the first-team defense and running back Brandon Gonzalez was a second-team pick on the offense.
The 6-1, 185-pound Renick recorded 85 tackles, 4.5 sacks and was a leader on a tough Cardinal defense. The senior earned All-CIF-SS East Valley Division honors.
Gonzalez was the heart and soul of the Bishop offense.The hard-running senior rushed for 1,440 yards and scored 15 touchdowns. He earned CIF-SS East Valley honors and was named the Offensive Player of the Year in the Frontier League
Renick and Gonzalez helped the Cardinals go 11-2, win the Frontier League championship and advance to the CIF East Valley semifinals. They lost to eventual champion Sierra Canyon, which placed six players on the Division 4 All-State team.
Sierra Canyon quarterback Tyler Stewart was named the division’s Player of the Year.
