David Aarons managed his way through the wind and rain on Monday to capture medalist honors in WSC No. 2 with a 1-under 71. SBCC shot 394 on its home course to take the title by a stroke over Canyons in the seven-team men‘s golf tourney at the Alisal Ranch Course in Solvang.
Aarons, a sophomore from Santa Barbara High, had four birdies and an eagle on the 6,500-yard layout. Trevor Gorski shot 78 and Jeff Blystone carded a 79 for the Vaqueros (18-2), who are tied for first in the WSC with Canyons at 11-1.
Ventura and Glendale tied for third at 399 with the Pirates winning a card-off tiebreaker.
“David had a phenomenal round in very difficult conditions,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “There was lots of wind and a little rain.
“It’s a great start for us. We’ve had different people stepping up every week, which is fantastic.”
The Vaqueros will play in WSC No. 3 on Monday, Feb. 27 at Rio Bravo CC in Bakersfield.
