In an offensively challenged match on Tuesday, Carpinteria found a way to score and beat rival Bishop Diego 1-0 in the Frontier League girls soccer opener for both teams.
In the 66th minute, freshman Monica Garcia finished a play started by Giselle Estrada and kept alive by Louise Stanley
“There wasn’t a whole lot of offense going on,” said Warriors head coach Lucy Carleton.
Sally Lamb recorded the shut out in goal for the Warriors, who improve to 6-3-1. Capinteria’s defensive effort was led by Kelsey Drain, Shirley Benitez, and Alexa Benitez.
“I would say Carp did a great job defending today,” said Cardinals head coach Brent Gonsalves. “They just did a god job of defending us and interrupting us all game.”
“We prepared for that well but we just didn’t execute.”
Bishop has started the season 7-3-2 and can get back into the win column on Thursday against Fillmore.
