Elena Schneider’s 16 points and eight steals helped Carpinteria’s girls basketball team hold off Cate 46-39 on Saturday.
The Warriors made 5-of-8 free throws in the final four minutes after Cate’s Linea Pearson cut their lead to six with a 3-pointer.
“That’s the only thing that separated us in this game because Cate’s a hard working team,” said Warriors head coach Dan Mercer.
Bethany Lugo’s 12 points and Juli Cullins’ 13 rebounds were big contributions for Carpinteria.
Pearson led Cate with 14 points. Erica Noble and Brittany Newsome added six each.
Carpinteria improves to 6-8 after its final preseason game. The Warriors begin Frontier League play on Tuesday against Villanova.
“This was a great game to get us ready for league,” Mercer said.
