Carpinteria’s girls basketball team was right there with Santa Paula on Thursday but fell 36-31 in a Frontier League game.
The decision dropped the Warriors to 1-3 in league play while Santa Paula improves to 3-1.
Carpinteria was in a position to win, holding a 29-28 lead in the fourth quarter, until Santa Paula finished the game on an 8-2 run.
“Just means we’re going to be in the hunt,” said Warriors head coach Dan Mercer.
Villanova leads the league at 4-0.
Erin Saito led Carpinteria with nine points and Juli Cullins added eight points and 13 rebounds. Bethany Lugo contributed five points, as did Christina Burch who also collected six rebounds.
Santa Paula’s Yesenia Mancilla led all scorers with 12 points off the bench.
