PHOTO GALLERY INTRO: Sam Strong’s goal late in the second half proved to be the game-winner on Tuesday, as San Marcos’ boys soccer team defeated Dos Pueblos 2-1 in the Channel League opener for both teams.

After a scoreless first half, Cody Martinez gave the Royals a 1-0 lead with his fourth goal of the season. Dos Pueblos’ Scott Terry equalized just a few minutes later by beating San Marcos’ keeper with a shot to the near post through traffic.

Humberto Cruz found Strong on the right side. Cruz’s pass reached Strong as DP goalie Nick Van Hoorn came out to challenge the play but Strong poked a shot past the keeper and across the goal line.
