Emily Allen scored and the San Marcos defense made it stand up for the Royals’ first Channel League girls soccer win, a 1-0 decision over Ventura on Tuesday night.
“This win means everything,” said head coach Macie Berlin. “We still have a chance for the playoffs.”
The Royals are 1-2-3 in league play.
Allen scored in the 15th minute on a one-touch finish of a cross from Libby Brymer. Center back Ashley Carney started the sequence, playing the ball to Caroline Vance, who then hit it wide to Brymer.
“The girls came out confident,” Berlin said. “It was the best first half of offense the team has played.”
The defense and goalkeeper Hannah Harrah played well. Harrah preserved the victory with a big save in the final minute.
“This was a nice little push for our confidence,” said Berlin.
