After struggling to find an offensive rhythm in the first half, the Cate School boys basketball team heated up from the field in the second half and defeated Midland on the road 75-53.
“We couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn in that first half,” head coach Bryan Rodriguez said.
Midland’s Luke Carpenter had no problems finding the bucket in the first half, and put up 24 points before the break en route to a game high 31.
The Rams came out string in the second half and locked in on Carpenter defensively, holding him to just six points in the third and fourth quarters.
The offense started to heat up and four players finished the game with double-digit points. Austin Gallegos led the team with 20 points, Kyle Mayfield and Max Wankner had 15, and John Basar had 12.
By the end of the game, every player on the Cate roster except for one had scored.
The Rams (2-1 Condor League, 4-3 overall) will continue their season on Wednesday at home against the Dunn School.
