Bishop Diego could not overtake Nordhoff on Tuesday, falling 46-35 in the Cardinals’ Tri-Valley League opener.
The Cardinals gave the Rangers a 13-point head start in the first quarter but managed to pull even at 17-17 in the second quarter. Nordhoff responded by building its lead back up to five by halftime before creating separation late in the fourth quarter.
Bishop Diego’s Charlie Fling, Greer Shull, and Josie McCoy matched each for the team lead in scoring with eight points each. Fling gave the Cardinals a strong post presence with 14 rebounds and five blocks. McCoy was also in the mix with 10 rebounds. Jordyn Lilly added six points.
The loss makes Bishop 7-7 overall and 0-1 in league. It was the first game of four in five days for Bishop, which plays Oaks Christian on back-to-back nights Wednesday and Thursday.
