The Providence Hall girls basketball team held off a late surge from visitng Cate to earn a 37-32 victory.
Lacey Gonzalez led the Lions with 15 points while Elizabeth Beebe added eight more.
Providence Hall jumped out to an early lead and looked to be in control of the game at halftime.
“This is the fourth game this year where we’ve steaked a team a double-digit lead,” Cate head coach Jay Dorion said. “We easily could have folded up the tents at half time.”
The Rams came into the third quarter with renewed energy and fought their way back into the game.
Grace Dickman led the team 10 points while Lanea Pearson had nine and Erika Noble made up another part of a balanced scoring attack with eight points.
Cate finally caught up and tied the game at 32-32 with just two minutes remaining in the game, but could not get a basket for the remainder of the game.
The Lions were able to get the crucial final basksets and get the win.
Providence Hall (7-5) will continue its season on Saturday at Westmont College against Orcutt Academy.
Cate (1-1 Condor League, 4-5 overall) will play next on Saturday at home against Thacher.
