The UCSB women’s swimming and diving team captured its second dual win in as many days on Saturday as the Gauchos defeated UC Davis, 162-138, at the Aggies’ Schaal Aquatics Center.
UCSB won 10 of 16 events during the meet on its way to its third consecutive meet win. The Gauchos now hold a 5-3 dual record this season.
The Gauchos got things off to a strong start in the 200 medley relay with Allie Knight, Sophia Yamauchi, Andrea Ward and Kendall Neely placing first in 1:43.69.
Knight and Yamauchi were multiple event winners. Knight won the 100 backstroke (57.33), the 400 individual medley (4:27.28) and the 200 backstroke (2:03.85). Yamauchi, meanwhile, captured individual wins in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.41) and the 200 breast (2:16.93).
UCSB swept the distance events with Heren Alanis winning the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:25.65 and Natalie Garland winning the 500 free in 5:01.54.
In diving, Caila Baltas captured first place on the one-meter board with a score of 221.70 points. She became the first Gaucho diver to capture first place since the program was brought back last season.
The Gauchos finished the meet just as strong as they started with Ward, Neely, Sasza Lohrey and Yamauchi capturing the top finish in the 400 free relay. They posted a time of 3:26.81, edging out the Aggie ‘A’ team by .08 seconds.
UCSB will compete in its final dual meet of the 2011-12 season next Saturday, Feb. 4 when it hosts Cal Poly at Campus Pool. The meet is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
