Santa Barbara High girls soccer coach Jeff Johnson could only shake his head in disbelief after the referee’s final whistle blew in the Dons’ 1-0 loss to visiting Buena in a Channel League game.
Johnson said that, according to his watch, Buena’s winning goal came in the 84th minute.
Johnson said every other referee that has called his team’s matches has ended the matches at 80 minutes.
“We haven’t been able to buy a break this year,” said Johnson, whose team fell to 0-4-1 in league play. Buena is 6-0.
“The performance (his players) put in was amazing,” Johnson said. “They sacrificed everything tonight. They deserve a point. Everybody was just gutted.”
He said goalie Allie Chandler and the play of the back line was solid in the Senior Night match. He also lauded midfielder Michelle Goss and forward Jackie Lopez.
