The Santa Barbara High boys soccer team started its Channel League campaign with a 3-1 win at home over Buena.
In the 17th minute, Alberto Hernandez opened up the scoring and put the Dons ahead 1-0.
The lead did not last long, and Buena converted a penalty kick to tie the game in the 24th minute.
Going into halftime with the game tied, Santa Barbara was confident in its gameplan and made no adjustments.
“They weren’t going to let the one penalty kick decide our fate,” head coach Todd Heil said.
The Dons were relentless in the second half, and Jelan Hutton scored just three minutes after play resumed.
In the 61st minute, Alfredo Ibarra extended the Santa Barbara lead and all but sealed the game.
The stat sheet confirmed the Dons’ dominance, as they outshot Buena 18-3.
