Hancock erased an early deficit with a 14-0 run on Saturday night and went on to beat SBCC 60-50 in a men’s basketball game in Santa Maria.
The Vaqueros (3-15, 0-3 WSC North) jumped ahead 8-2 before the Bulldogs (15-6, 2-2) got hot and built a 16-8 lead with 7:50 to play. Hancock led 22-18 at halftime.
Santa Barbara was outshot 41 to 30 percent and missed all 17 of its 3-point tries. The Bulldogs made 6-15 from downtown.
JP Dodson led the Vaqueros with 15 points while Eric Becker had 13 points and six rebounds. Scott Burrows added seven points and seven boards as SBCC won the rebound battle, 39-33.
“Our shot selection and our ability to take care of the ball were both poor in the first half,” said coach Morris Hodges. “We defended well enough but our offense didn’t help us.”
