Junior captain Ema Boateng celebrated his 18th birthday by tallying four goals and an assist in Cate’s 6-0 romp over visiting Coast Union in a non-league boys soccer match on Tuesday.
Boateng got things going in the seventh minute with a goal off a free kick from the top of the box.
Freshman Iman Fardghassemi and junior Justin Kim assisted on the next two of Boateng’s goals. The fourth goal came on a penatly kick midway through the second half.
Just minutes later sophomore Shuta Kobayashi finished a Boateng corner kick.
As time was winding down, Kobayashi fed a perfect ball to senior captain Avery Schwartz who volleyed over the goalkeeper to finish the scoring for the day.
“The entire team turned in a great effort and Blake Wands recorded his seventh shutout of the season,” said coach Dave Mochel.
Cate (7-1-1) travels to Oak Park on Friday.
