The Cate School boys basketball team faced a daunting hole after allowing the visiting Dunn School to start the game on a 16-0 run, but climbed all the way back to win the game 56-50.
“We are not a team that shies away from the dramatic,” head coach Bryan Rodriguez said.
The Rams’ first half was characterized by missed layups and other sloppy mistakes.
After the slow start, Max Wankner and Austin Gallegos were able to heat up offensively. Wankner led the team with 17 points, and also had seven assists, while Gallegos finished with 14.
In the fourth quarter, sophomore point guard John Basar pushed the team on both ends of the floor and led Cate late in the game to its improbably comeback.
Basar finsihed the game with nine points and praises from his coach.
“Max and Austin kept us in the game, but the fourth quarter the momentum came from John,” Rodriguez said.
The Rams (3-1 Condor League, 5-3 overall) will travel to Thacher to play Besant Hill in another league match on Saturday.
