Villanova briefly grabbed a fourth-quarter lead from Bishop Diego’s boys basketball team on Friday, but the Cardinals used two clutch 3-pointers from Elias Munoz and Nolan Tisdale to regain control and capture a 50-42 Frontier League victory.
Munoz finished with 27 points to lead all scorers. Tisdale added 10 points, four assists and two steals.
The Cardinals led 21-10 at halftime but let Villanova back into the game in the third quarter. The Wildcats took a one-point lead more than halfway through the fourth quarter.
“Really, they had all the momentum so it was nice to see the boys hang in there and face the adversity,” said Bishop Diego head coach Dean Prophet.
With the win, the Cardinals finish the first round of league play with a 4-1 record.
