Jack Platner’s 25 points were trouble for Bishop Diego on Wednesday night, especially the three that forced overtime in a 55-52 Frontier League loss to Malibu in the Brickhouse.
Platner’s 3-pointer at the end of regulation erased a perfect opportunity for the Cardinals to claim the win.
“We were guarding him (close), he just made a play,” said Cardinals head coach Dean Prophet.
Bishop came out and took the lead again in the overtime period but could not hold on.
Elias Munoz was the leading scorer for the Cardinals with 24. Munoz carried Bishop in the fourth quarter by converting nine-of-ten free throws.
Nolan Tisdale also had a big game for Bishop Diego, collecting a season-high 18 points.
Bishop Diego played much of the game without starting guard Sam Kwock, who was ejected in the second quarter because of a flagrant foul.
The Cardinals (6-11, 1-1) will look to get back in the win column on Friday at Santa Paula. Malibu (10-7, 2-0) ends the week with Villanova on Friday.
