The Providence Hall boys basketball team faced a seven-point deficit with just 90 seconds left in its game at the Dunn School, but hit two consecutive three-point shots to set up an opportunity for a game-winner. The Lions came up just short, and lost 49-48.
Nathan Dutcher led the team with 12 points in a back-and-forth contest, but Providence Hall failed to find an offensive rhythm during the game.
“We only shot 25 percent from the field,” head coach Keith Luberto said, “That’s really what killed us.”
Neither team was able to gain control of the game until a fourth quarter surge by Dunn left the Lions down by seven.
Luke Gonzalez and Eric Sheets hit shots from behind the arc on successive trips down the floor to pull their team within a point.
The Lions came up with a key defensive spot to give themselves an opportunity to win the game, but were unable to get the final shot to fall and fell to 5-4 on the season.
Providence Hall will play next on Saturday at Westmont against Santa Clarita Christian.
