The Bishop Diego boys soccer team went up 1-0 playing at Orcutt Academy, but the host team leveled the score early in the second half and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
For the Cardinals, Sani Bollag struck a ball from outside the 18-yard box that sailed past the goalkeeper and gave Bishop Diego a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute.
Orcutt responded by coming out strong to open the second half, and took advantage of a costly error by the Cardinals.
The Bishop Diego goalkeeper stepped outside the box while punting the ball, which resulted in a free kick that Orcutt put in the back of the net.
The Cardinals mounted several impressive attack after the game was tied, but were unable to get a game-winning goal.
The sustained offensive pressure was a positive sign for head coach Ivan Becerra.
“I think the guys are coming together,” he said.
Bishop Diego (2-4-2) continues its season on Tuesday at St. Bonaventure.
