The Bishop Diego girls basketball team made a late surge to tie its game at Nordhoff, but lost 72-65 in overtime.
Greer Shull led the team with 23 points, while Josiey McCoy added 18 more. Charlie Fling led the Cardinals with 12 rebounds.
With four minutes left to play, Bishop Diego was down by eight points. The Cardinals stormed back and Shull tied the game at the free thrown line.
Once the game was extended, the fouls Bishop Diego had committed started to catch up to them.
The Cardinals committed 24 fouls and had three players foul out while Nordhoff scored 21 points at the free throw line.
“We lost the game at the free throw line,” Bishop Diego head coach Jeff Burich said. His team went 13-21 from the charity strike.
The Cardinals will continue their season at Santa Clara on Tuesday.
