David Aarons shot a 3-over-par 75 on Monday at the Bakersfield Invitational and SBCC is in sixth place after the first round of the season-opening men’s golf tournament at Seven Oaks CC.
Canyons leads the nine-team tourney at 362, followed by Citrus and Hancock at 381. All five Vaqueros shot in the 70s for a total of 386. Only 10 strokes separate second through seventh place.
Freshmen Forrest Iverson and Thomas McLendon recorded 77s for SBCC, Trevor Gorski shot 78 and Reese Hutchins had a 79. The medalists were Riley Hayfield and Luke Kristo, both from Canyons, at 1-under 71.
“We’re a young team and I was pleased, considering this is our first taste of competition,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “I’m always happy when we have five guys in the 70s. This is a pretty talented group.”
The final round will be played Tuesday at Rio Bravo CC, starting at 8 a.m.
