With a 46-34 defeat of Cabrillo, Carpinteria’s girls basketball team finished off the Bishop Diego/Carpinteria Tournament on Saturday with a 3-1 record and a consolation championship.
Juli Cullins was named all-tournament for the Warriors after averaging 13 points and 10 rebounds in four games. Cullins tallied 13 on Saturday.
Elena Schneider’s two 3-pointers late in the third quarter helped the Warriors separate from the Lady Conqs in the second half. Schneider finished with 12 points.
Cabrillo scored the first four points of the third quarter to pull within one at 23-22. But the Warriors took off on a 9-1 run to close out the quarter and continued with that momentum into the fourth quarter.
“Point guard Bethany Lugo really set the tone,” said Warriors head coach Dan Mercer. “She led the charge, got the ball to the right people.”
Carpinteria has won three straight after dropping the tournament opener.
“We got good team chemistry and we’re starting to believe in ourselves,” Mercer said.
The Warriors play next on Monday in a home game against Bishop Diego.
Erin Saito added 10 points for Carpinteria in Saturday’s game.
Gaby Baumgardner was Cabrillo’s top scorer with 14.
