It took made free throws down the stretch, but Carpinteria’s girls basketball team held off Cate 36-28 on Wednesday in the second day of the Bishop Diego/Carpinteria Tournament.
The Warriors had the hot start and took a 13-0 lead. Cate didn’t go away and rallied to within two points.
In the final two minutes of the game, the Warriors’ Bethany Lugo and Morgan Wallace made 5-of-6 free throws to hold off the Rams.
Juli Collins’ 14 points and 14 rebounds led Carpinteria in both categories.
The Rams’ leading scorer was Erin Griffin with 11 points.
After Carpinteria’s 13-0 start, Cate outscored the Warriors 28-23.
