Warriors close the gap on Channel Islands

Just five days after their first meeting, Carpinteria and Channel Islands met again in a non-league clash on Thursday in the Warriors’ gym. This time the Warriors had a better showing, falling to the Raiders 49-33.

After a 34-point loss last Saturday, Carpinteria cut the difference by more than half.

“The athleticism is really hard to play against,” said Warriors head coach Johnny Ward.

Xavier DeAlba came off the bench to collect seven points and seven rebounds. Starting sophomore Duncan Gordon continued a strong series of performances.

“He’s seeing more and more minutes and he’s playing well,” Ward said.

Jordan Robinson also came off the bench to score seven points.

Overall, it’s been a tough first 10 games for the Warriors.

“Even though we’re 1-9, the kids are still playing hard,” Ward said. “It’s making us better for league.”

Carpinteria plays Fillmore on January 3rd before beginning Frontier League play.
