Jasmine Johnson collected 12 points, six steals and four assists on Friday afternoon but SBCC still came up short in the opening round of the Moorpark Classic. Antelope Valley prevailed 57-49.
The Vaqueros (5-5) overcame a 37-27 halftime deficit but couldn’t finish the deal. SBCC was outshot 44 to 38 percent and outrebounded 38-25.
“It was close the entire second half until the three-minute mark when we stopped scoring,“ said coach Sandrine Krul, whose team made only 4 of 15 free throws. “AVC has a frontline of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-2 and we held them to 57 points. We have 11 freshmen and we just have to get better on offense. I know we will.”
Jennifer Jimenez had eight points and Mercedes Gonzalez added six points and seven rebounds. Sara Crane had six points and six boards.
The Vaqueros will play Santa Ana on Saturday at noon.
