Christina Valdez scored twice for Carpinteria’s girls soccer team on Friday, providing half of the Warriors’ scoring output in a 4-0 win over Orcutt Academy.
The Warriors scored four times, all coming after the first goal in the 33rd minute.
“It took us awhile to finally get the ball in the net,” said Carpinteria head coach Lucy Carleton.
Lesly Zapata found Valdez for the first score to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Monica Garcia recorded Carpinteria’s next goal on a penalty kick. Garcia drew the penalty herself and converted the opportunity after a hard takedown.
“She decided she wanted to take the PK, which I wasn’t sure about,” Carleton said. “But she nailed it.”
Valdez was next with her second of the game, followed by a goal from junior Kylie Augurot.
Tania Arroyo recorded her third shutout of the season – and second in a row – in goal for Carpinteria (3-2-2).
The Warriors play again on Monday at home against Nordhoff.
