Carpinteria’s bid to be the first team to defeat Ventura this season fell short on Thursday as the Warriors fell 4-2 at the South Torrance Tournament.
“We made a couple of mistakes and they took advantage of it. They were good at making you pay for it,” said Carpinteria head coach Daniel Torres.
Ventura (13-0-3) fell into the consolation bracket after losing on PKs in the first round but the result goes into the record books as a tie.
The Warriors never led, but got a pair of goals from Adam Ughoc and Mohammed Mehai.
“We had our chances too when it was a 0-0 game,” Torres said.
On Ughoc’s goal that came from 25 yards out, Torres raved.
“It was one of the nicest goals I’ve seen (while coaching at Carpinteria),” Torres said. “He’s been working really hard to get better this year.”
Luis Cisnero assisted on Mehai’s score.
The Warriors went 2-2 in their first appearance at the prestigious South Torrance Tournament in school history.
“I’m content with the way we played,” said Torres. “There’s more positives to take from the tournament than negatives, that’s for sure.”
The 5-4 Warriors play Cate in their next game, set for Wednesday, January 4.
