Turnovers cost Warriors against Flashes

Turnovers bit Carpinteria’s boys basketball team on Friday, causing problems in the second half of a 45-40 loss to Fillmore at the Fillmore Tournament.

The Warriors turned the ball over 13 times in the second half alone to help Fillmore erase a 10-point deficit at halftime.

“We had all the chances in the world to win that game but we couldn’t pull it out,” said Carpinteria head coach Johnny Ward.

Fillmore took its first lead in the fourth quarter and won the game by outscoring the Warriors 36-21 in the second half.

Marcus Hutchinson and Xavier De Alba were bright spots for the Warriors. Hutchinson connected on four 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 14 points. De Alba collected 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 drawn charges off the bench.

Jordan Robinson started his second game for Carpinteria and grabbed nine rebounds and was given praise for his defense by Ward.

Carpinteria (1-3) closes out the tournament on Saturday against Rosamond.
