Four-time Channel League singles champion Lauren Stratman reached the CIF Individual semifinals with two gutsy wins on Thursday, but fell on Friday in straight sets to eventual champion Meagan Manasse of Mira Costa.
“This morning I could barely walk after playing 6 hours of tennis yesterday,” Stratman said.
“You have to be on and playing super well to beat (Meagan) and my body would not allow me to do that today,” Stratman continued. “Overall I’m very happy to have made it to the semifinals.”
Stratman defeated Jasmine Almaguer in the Round of 16 5-7, 7-6, 6-3 followed by Alexis Periera of Campbell Hall in the quarters 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The Dos Pueblos senior was fighting sickness during Thursday’s matches but battled through it.
“(I) thought about pulling out in the second set but decided to keep playing and see what happened because it could’ve potentially been my last high school match,” Stratman explained.
The senior made it two rounds further than last year when she was beaten in the Round of 16.
