The SBCC women’s basketball team closed out 2011 with a sub-par performance on Thursday afternoon in the consolation semifinals of the 24th annual Grossmont Holiday Tournament.
Mt. San Jacinto, ranked No. 8 in the state, opened the second half on a 20-5 run and went on to beat the Vaqueros 70-42. The Eagles (12-3) jumped out to an 11-3 lead at the start and led 28-20 at halftime.
San Jacinto outshot the Vaqueros 42 to 23 percent and won the rebound battle 48-34. Santa Barbara (5-10) dropped its seventh straight game after going 0-for-13 on 3-pointers. The Vaqueros missed all 28 of their long-range shots in the tourney.
Shannon Abdulla led SBCC with 11 points and Marissa Unzueta had six points and five rebounds. Elisa Salazar and Sara Crane both contributed five points and five rebounds. Crane added four assists and three steals.
The Vaqueros open WSC North play on Saturday, Jan. 7 with a 5 p.m. home game against Oxnard.
