San Marcos freshman Kaitlyn Saperstein scored twice in the second half for the Royals’ girls soccer team on Thursday, drawing San Marcos even with San Luis Obispo 2-2 in the final game of the Santa Maria Tournament.
Saperstein’s second goal came a minute before the game ended, completing a comeback from two goals down at halftime to the Tigers. The freshman took a long pass from the defensive back and flicked it forward to herself. Saperstein beat a bigger defender to the ball and slid to get the shot off.
San Marcos had another game in the morning, dropping a 1-0 decision to St. Joseph. The Knights pocketed the victory by scoring on one of their few scoring chances.
“Unfortunate, yes, but the performance was good so I don’t think anyone was too frustrated,” said Royals assistant Macie Berlin.
The Royals, who begin Channel League play when they play again in January, finish the two-day tournament with two losses and two ties.
