San Marcos and Carpinteria High faced off in the seventh place game of the Fillmore Tournament on Saturday, with the Royals winning their first game of the season 29-23.
Liz Gil led San Marcos in scoring with seven points. Emily Dietz and Kayla Conboy each tallied six.
For Carpinteria, Bethany Lugo posted a game-high 10 points.
San Marcos took a 24-19 lead into the fourth quarter and increased the lead a bit before Carpinteria scored five-straight to get back in the game.
The Royals and Warriors will both be playing locally in tournaments next week. San Marcos is co-host of the Gold Coast Tournament that starts on Wednesday. The Warriors are co-hosts of the Bishop Diego/Carpinteria Tournament, which also begins on Wednesday.
