The Channel League boys basketball season begins anew on Wednesday with San Marcos traveling to Dos Pueblos and Ventura College hosting a clash between Ventura and Buena. Santa Barbara opens on Friday when the Dons welcomes the Bulldogs to JR Richards Gym.

The Cougars won a CIF-ss title last season with a large group of seniors, but the new version is off to a 5-3 start and ranked No. 14 in Division 1-AA in the Southern Section preseason polls that were released Monday.
San Marcos (7–2) just won its third straight title at the Coast Union Tournament and opened up No. 4 in Division 3-AA.

Santa Barbara (3-4) had a good showing at the recent Arroyo Grande Tourament. Dos Pueblos (2-3) lost its starting center to injury before the season and have only played five games so far this season. Buena (2-6) won its first two but has slipped into a six-game slide since.
