Bishop Diego’s fourth quarter lead wasn’t safe from Morro Bay on Saturday, as the Pirates overtook the Cardinals 59-57 in the second round of the Jim Bashore Classic.
Sam Kwock’s 25 points nearly did the job but Bishop couldn’t hold on to a 12-point advantage going into the final period.
“The boys played well, we just couldn’t finish,” said Cardinals head coach Dean Prophet.
Elias Munoz reached double figures in scoring with 10. Prophet noted Nolan Tisdale for doing a great job on the boards.
Morro Bay was up five 59-54 when Kwock drained his fourth three-pointer of the game to pull the Cardinals within a basket. But the Pirates were able to inbounds the ball and run out the clock.
Bishop Diego (1-7) will play Cabrillo on Monday. Tournament play continues on Monday and finishes on Tuesday at Carpinteria High School.
