Providence Hall’s boys basketball beat out Vasquez for fifth place at the Santa Clarita Christian Tournament on Saturday, getting the better of a 68-64 decision.
The Lions even their record at 2-2 after an opening week to their season in which they played in three straight overtime games followed by Saturday’s tense thriller that wrapped up in regulation.
Matthew Eaton led Providence Hall in scoring with 20 points. The freshman came through in crunch time, scoring six points in a game-changing eight-point run late in the fourth quarter.
Vasquez led by four points with two minutes remaining before Eaton and the Lions scored eight quick points to swing the game in their favor.
Preston Towers collected 12 points and 13 rebounds while Nate Dutcher posted 19 points.
“Winning our last two games really helped with our persepctive,” said Lions head coach Keith Luberto, whose team lost its first two games in overtime.
Providence Hall has a less busy week ahead, traveling to Thacher for its next game on Friday.
