The Laguna Blanca boys soccer team took an early lead at Midland, but could not hold off its Condor League opponent and lost 2-1.
“We had our chances and couldn’t put them away,” head coach Travis Mañach said.
Connor Curran’s left-footed shot hit the back of the net to give the Owls a 1-0 lead not long after the opening whistle.<
The first half ended with the same score, but Midland tied the game midway through the second half.
Laguna Blanca was stabilized by strong play in the center of the field from Ryan Bickett.
Despite Bickett’s efforts, Midland was able to work its way into a threatening position and was awarded a penalty kick towards the end of the match. The Oak Trees converted and would protect their 2-1 lead for the remainder of the game.
Laguna Blanca (0-2 overall, 0-1 Condor League) with break for the holidays and continue play at home against Cate on January 7.
