Scott Terry and Omar Montalvo knocked in goals in a 2-0 victory for Dos Pueblos’ boys soccer team on Monday, as the Chargers defeated Rio Mesa.
The game was played at Girsh Park because of a wet field at Dos Pueblos.
The two teams were scoreless in the first half, and most of the second, until Montalvo broke the ice in the 63rd minute.
Oscar Escamilla found Montalvo and Michael Sazani’s pass set up Terry’s goal. Each score was the product of great passing from the Chargers.
“A couple of brilliant throughballs got us one-one with the keeper,” explained Chargers head coach Matt York, whose team is now 4-6 on the season.
The Spartans almost got a goal back in the 76th minute but defender Noah Zimmerman was able to stop a shot on the goal line after goalie Nick Van Hoorn got beat out of position.
“He was ‘Johnny on the Spot there’,” York said.
The Chargers have two more games this week, both on the road. Wednesday is Oxnard and Friday is at Hueneme.
