The UCSB swim teams posted a slew of NCAA ‘B’ cuts and season-best times on the second day of the Texas Hall of Fame Invitational on Friday evening.
After two days of action, both the men and women are in seventh place. The men have tallied 230 points while the women have 200.
The night’s finals began with the 200 medley relay. The women’s team of Emily Stucky, Sophia Yamauchi, Andrea Ward and Mariah Tharp took 12th place with a season-best time of 1:42.94. The men’s team of Kevin Ferguson, Tyler Jean, Max Horrell and Chris Peterson placed 10th, also with a season-best time, in 1:30.00.
The individual events began with the 400 individual medley. Randy Aakhus qualified for the finals in the event with a preliminary time of 3:53.75, which is an NCAA ‘B’ cut. He took eighth place in the finals after going 3:55.49.
Evan Simoni (3:56.56) took 12th, Ryan Garcia (3:59.88) placed 21st and Andrew Barmann (4:00.93) took 25th, winning his heat. All three Gauchos posted their best times of the year in the event.
On the women’s side, Allie Knight took 24th. She went 4:22.41 in the prelims and a slightly slower 4:25.07 in the finals.
In the 200 free, Andrea Ward won her heat and placed 17th overall with her time of 1:48.55. Emma Hunt took 31st in 1:50.74.
For the men, Garrett Thompson posted an NCAA ‘B’ cut with his mark of 1:36.53. He placed 10th. Chase Lemley took 26th in the 200 free with a time of 1:40.10.
The final individual event was the 100 breaststroke. Sophia Yamauchi placed 13th with a finals time of 1:02.61. She swam a season-best time of 1:02.26, which is an NCAA ‘B’ cut, in the prelims.
Tyler Jean, meanwhile, placed 20th in 56.63 seconds and Chris Leon took 30th in 58.73 seconds (57.92 in prelims) for the Gaucho men.
The day wrapped up with the 800 free relay. The women’s team consisted of Hunt, Ward, Yamauchi and Emily Stucky. They finished 10th in 7:30.84.
After Thompson led-off the men’s relay with a season best 200 free split of 1:36.36, Lemley, Alex Campbell and Barmann followed, touching the wall in 6:37.22, which is an NCAA ‘B’ cut. The UCSB men placed fourth.
The Texas Hall of Fame Invitational will conclude on Sunday with the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and the 400 free relay.
