Santa Barbara’s girls basketball team shut down St. Joseph 72-30 on Thursday as the Dons limited the Knights’ top-two scoring options.
Kaitlyn Flowers and Tatiana Dunlap combined to scored 53 points on Wednesday but Flowers managed only five points and Dunlap spent much of the game on the bench in foul trouble.
On offense, the Dons thrived. Santa Barbara shot 56 percent from the field as a team and 63 percent in the second half by making 17-of-27 shots.
“And we’re not a great shooting team but we were today,” said Santa Barbara head coach Andrew Butcher.
On 30 baskets, Santa Barbara recorded 21 assists.
Ivette Gil poured in 25 points and collected five steals and five assists. Desiree Coleman also did many good things, including 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting, eight rebounds, four steals, and two assists.
It was the fifth straight win without a loss for the Dons, who continue play in the Gold Coast Tournament on Friday at Rio Mesa High School against Channel Islands.
