The Dos Pueblos girls basketball team was defeated by Monroe it its second game at the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions in a back-and-forth contest that ended 60-53.
Kristen Gowdy led the team with 12 points, while Jessica Escalante and Jasmine Mata also scored in double figures. Escalante finished with 11 points and Mata put up 10, but the scoring output was not enough to keep the Chargers within striking range of their opponents.
Dos Pueblos pulled within one point of Monroe at multiple points in the game, but was never able to come up with a key defensive stop to get the opportunity to gain the lead.
The Chargers (8-4) will continue tournament play tomorrow at 4 p.m. against Agoura.
