Chargers dominate day, headed to semifinals

The Dos Pueblos girls soccer team scored five goals and allowed zero in two tournament games in Orange County, and will advance to the semifinals.

The Chargers’ first game resulted in a 4-0 rout of California.

Megan Gee helped Dos Pueblos get off to a quick start with a goal in the third minute. Rachel Smith and Natalie Klapp each had first half goals as well, and the Chargers controlled the game for the entire 80 mintues.

Despite a comfortable lead, Dos Pueblos maintained pressure on its opponents throughout the match.  Klapp scored her second goal of the game early in the second half to seal the victory.

The Chargers’ next game against La Mirada proved to be more a challenge, but the team did not back down and earned a 1-0 victory.

Jamie Benedetto, who is normally a center defender, was forced to play forward due to four Dos Pueblos attackers missing the game with injuries.

Benedetto capitalized on her opportunity to play an offensive position and scored the games lone goal.

Dos Pueblos will play in the tournament’s semifinals tomorrow. The team’s opponent is still to be determined.
