Gabby Koepenick gave Bishop Diego’s girls soccer team the goal it needed on Thursday, lifting the Cardinals to a 1-0 win over Vasquez.
It was a scoreless stalemate through 59 minutes before Natalie Durtche slotted a pass through the defense to Koepenick, who finished the play that brought Bishop Diego to a 4-0 record.
It was the first game in the Grace Brethren Tournament for the two teams. Bishop Diego travels to Village Christian on Friday and to Grace Brethren on Saturday.
“This is our crunch week I believe,” said Cardinals head coach Brent Gonsalves.
Goalie Kim Ruiz and the defense posted their second shutout of the season.
“I think what’s important for us is to keep improving and settting building blocks of what we want to do on the field this year,” Gonsalves said.
