Dos Pueblos opened up play at the Ventura Kiwanis Tournament on Monday against Canyon, the No. 7 ranked team in CIF-ss Division 1-A.
Canyon backed up the ranking with a 49-25 defeat of the Chargers in a game that saw Coley Aspay lead all scorers with 15 points.
The Cowboys dominated the first and last quarters by the combined score of 32-8.
“They played very well and made it hard for (us) to get into a ryhthm,” said Chargers head coach Joe Zamora of Canyon.
Dos Pueblos’ Jackson Wopat and Chris Williams were the Chargers’ offensive leaders with six and five points, respectively.
DP (2-6) continues tournament play on Tuesday against Pacifica. Canyon is now 11-1.
