Camarillo was a much better team than Santa Barbara High on Tuesday night, and the Scorpions have a 64–42 non-league victory to show for it.
Camarillo became the first team to defeat the Dons this season in eight games, and did so in commanding fashion.
“The score was not as close as it was,” noted Dons head coach Andrew Butcher, who mentioned rebounding, turnovers, and shot selection as being issues on Tuesday.
Santa Barbara fell behind 24-7 by the end of the first quarter and 35-20 at halftime. The Dons committed 16 turnovers in the first half.
Melissa Lemus was the Dons’ top scorer with 11 points on 5-of-11 field goals. As a team, Santa Barbara was dominated on the boards and only came down with 21 total in the game.
“That has to be a decade-low,” Butcher said.
The loss comes for the Dons (7-1) just before the opening of the Santa Babrara Tournament of Champions next week.
