Laguna Blanca’s girls basketball team closed out the Bishop Diego Tournament with a 45-17 loss to Hueneme on Saturday.
The short-handed Owls played will only five players in the second half and were missing their leading scorer for the whole game.
Junior Marla Bonser stepped up to score eight points for Laguna Blanca (1-4).
“She had eight points but she was all over the place,” said Laguna Blanca head coach Chris Foster. “We saw lightning. It was her just flying everywhere.”
Bonser added nine rebounds, two assists, three steals and three blocks. Freshman Morgan Gainey grabbed 10 rebounds. Gainey was one of four freshmen on the floor for the Owls in the second half.
Laguna Blanca doesn’t play again until January.
“It’s a break we need, this is going to be good,” Foster said, looking forward to getting some practices in. “I think it’s good for us. My freshman get to see what high school basketball is all about. Now we just have to fine-tune some things.”
