Bishop Diego’s boys basketball team found the win column on Friday after a 43-27 triumph over Fillmore in the first round of the Bashore Classic at Carpinteria High.
The Cardinals had lost their first six games in large part because of their football team’s success. Now that their team is back at full strength, the Cardinals expect to have a good tournament in a tough field according to head coach Dean Prophet.
“We did a great job, much better job rebounding,” Prophet said of his team’s night on Friday. “Leo, Thomas and Reece really controlled the boards for us on both ends.”
Bishop Diego’s defense held the Flashes to eight or fewer points in every quarter.
Elias Munoz led Bishop with 12 points, six rebounds and three steals. Leo Schneider collected eight points and 11 rebounds. Andre Kohansamad had eight points.
Bishop Diego faces Morro Bay tomorrow at Carpinteria High at 3 p.m.
