Bishop Diego’s girls basketball team split a pair of games on Thursday at the Avalon Tournament but will still play in Friday’s championship game against Villanova.
The Cardinals lost to that same Villanova team in its first game on Thursday 53-26. Bishop rebounded in its second game and recorded a 43-24 victory over Malibu.
Greer Shull’s 10 points and Josie McCoy’s eight were tops for the Cardinals against Villanova.
“We just had a bad second quarter that separated the game for us,” said Bishop Diego head coach Jeff Burich.
The Sharks proved to be an easier foe as the Cardinals led 25-0 at halftime.
Freshman Jordyn Lilly and sophomore Michelle Garcia played well in that one according to Burich. Lilly and Garcia were two of eight players that scored for the Cardinals.
