Emily Allen responded to a position change on Thursday with a pair of second-half goals that lifted San Marcos’ girls soccer team to a 2-1 non-league victory at Oxnard.
The Yellowjackets scored first – taking a 1-0 lead into halftime – but the Royals switched up their formation and found a way to come back for the win.
Allen played forward on Thursday, a change from her normal midfield and defensive positions.
“She’s got the speed to play up front for us, so that’s really powerful,” said Royals assistant coach Macie Berlin.
Kaitlin Saperstein assisted on Allen’s first goal that tied the game 1-1.
Berlin commended Caroline Vance for playing an important defensive role. Vance shadowed Oxnard’s most dangerous player and did a good job of neutralizing the Yellowjackets in the second half.
The Royals will compete in the Santa Maria Tournament next week.
